PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® was founded in 1984 by William V. Day, president of St. Barnabas Health System. His goal was to help patients cope with the loneliness they often feel during the holidays by providing them with a gift and visitor. His secondary goal was to provide members of the public with an opportunity to visit their local nursing homes to witness the acts of goodwill and compassion that occur every day.
Since its founding, PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® has raised more than $5 million for gifts and visits to patients in Pennsylvania and surrounding states. The program has received numerous awards from local and national civic organizations, including a 1988 Citation from President Ronald Reagan. Because of the heart-warming value to patients and participants alike, PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® continues to grow and touch people's lives.
PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® Honorary Chairpersons
Ray Carter, Vice President and General Manager, WPXI-TV and his wife Cathy are long-time supporters of the PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® holiday campaign. “We consider it a privilege, an honor and a deeply personal responsibility to lead this program, a truly remarkable charity,” Ray Carter confided. “The visit is the real gift for these lonely, often forgotten patients.” See the Video.
The PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® campaign goal is to reach every facility and patient in Allegheny County. Helps us to reach this demanding goal and bring holiday warmth to thousands!
